ANA Holdings Inc. and Brazilian airframer Embraer have signed a firm agreement for eight additional E190-E2 aircraft, formalising a fleet expansion decision the Japanese carrier group first disclosed on July 29.
The E190-E2 order lifts ANA HD's total firm commitment for the Embraer regional jet type to 23 aircraft, with five purchase options still outstanding.
The new contract builds on ANA HD's original order for 15 E190-E2 aircraft, placed in 2025. Deliveries under the expanded E190-E2 order are scheduled to begin in 2028.
President and chief executive of ANA Holdings, Koji Shibata, said the E190-E2 order forms part of the group's strategy to build what he described as "a sustainable regional aviation network in Japan." Shibata added that the deal reflected confidence in "Embraer's technology to reduce both environmental impact and operating costs."
President and chief executive of Embraer Commercial Aviation, Arjan Meijer, said the manufacturer was "honoured by ANA HD's continued confidence in Embraer E2 small narrowbody aircraft" and would support the carrier's growth plans in Japan.
Embraer E-Jets have operated in Japan since 2009, supported by Embraer personnel and a maintenance network based in the country. The E190-E2 order adds to a regional jet backlog Embraer has been building across Asian markets as carriers replace ageing narrowbody and turboprop fleets with smaller, more fuel-efficient types.
Neither ANA HD nor Embraer disclosed the contract value, unit pricing or any list-price discount applied to the eight-aircraft order.
The companies also did not specify financing arrangements for the expanded E190-E2 order, nor confirm an exercise deadline for the five remaining options.
