Ontic acquires UK aviation compass manufacturer SIRS Navigation

Ontic has acquired UK-based SIRS Navigation, adding a specialist manufacturer of standby magnetic compasses to its aerospace components portfolio.

Based in Kent, SIRS Navigation has designed, manufactured and supported aviation compasses for more than 60 years, with tens of thousands of units currently in service across commercial, business aviation and rotorcraft platforms.

The company supplies products to aircraft OEM production lines as well as replacement units to operators and distributors in the aftermarket.

It also provides custom compass designs for individual aircraft and customer requirements.

SIRS Navigation’s compass designs were originally acquired from GE Aerospace and have since been developed in-house.

Ontic said the acquisition would provide the business with access to greater investment and infrastructure while maintaining continuity for existing customers.

The acquisition brings SIRS Navigation into an Ontic business spanning 10 sites and more than 1,900 employees, with activities covering the manufacture and support of aviation components.

Being part of a global aerospace business, with deep OEM and MRO expertise provides the scale, investment and long-term stability needed to continue to meet the high levels of quality, service and reliability our customers expect.
