In its latest traffic figures report, Cathay Cargo has revealed it carried 6% more cargo in July 2026 than in the same month last year, supported by strong demand from Northeast and Southeast Asia.

The Cathay Group said available freight tonne kilometres (AFTKs) remained at a similar level year-on-year, while total cargo tonnage for the first seven months of 2026 increased by 8% compared with the same period in 2025.

The cargo carrier said that demand remained resilient across its network during July, with its specialist solutions also recording strong performance.

Cathay Expert benefited from robust semiconductor flows within Asia, while Cathay Dangerous Goods was supported by increased lithium battery shipments from Northeast Asia and the Greater Bay Area.

Lavinia Lau, chief customer and commercial officer at Cathay, said: “However, jet fuel prices increased again in July due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, following a period of decreasing jet fuel prices in the previous months.”

Looking ahead, Cathay Cargo expects the summer holiday period to affect demand on some routes, although technology shipments are anticipated to remain strong.

Lau said: “We will deploy additional freighter capacity to the Americas starting this month to meet customer demand, along with additional freighter capacity from Air Hong Kong on selected regional routes later this year.”
